From Patient Care to Holistic Wellness: My Immersion Journey

About My Immersion Vanderbilt Project
This project is a culmination of my journey to becoming a nursing assistant, my hands-on experience in patient care, and my passion for holistic wellness. Through my training and work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), I have witnessed firsthand how healthcare extends beyond clinical treatments - it is deeply intertwined with a person’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
To bridge these aspects of care, I developed To Live Well, LLC, a wellness-focused platform designed to support individuals in cultivating healthy habits, prioritizing self-care, and achieving balance in their daily lives.
I grew up on the island of Borneo, where access to healthcare was often limited. A pivotal experience in my childhood - encountering a compassionate nurse in a rural hospital - showed me the profound impact that patient-centered care can have on individuals and their families. This moment inspired my passion for healthcare and wellness. My journey as a nursing assistant and the creation of To Live Well reflect my commitment to integrating compassionate care with practical wellness resources to support both patients and caregivers.

What Inspired My Healthcare Journey
Becoming a Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Before launching my online platform, my journey began with a nursing assistant certification course, where I learned the fundamentals of patient care, bedside communication, and clinical skills. This experience reinforced my dedication to healthcare and prepared me to work in direct patient care settings. To become a Certified Nursing Assistant (in Michigan), one has to take a State Approved course, complete clinical hours, and pass both a State written exam and a skill exam. After obtaining my certification, I was hired at a skilled rehabilitation facility. This was the start of my firsthand experience in healthcare.
During my time as a nursing assistant, I worked closely with patients who required varying levels of assistance. I gained invaluable experience in:
✅ Providing compassionate, hands-on care in high-stress environments
✅ Assisting patients with daily activities while prioritizing their dignity and comfort
✅ Understanding the emotional and physical toll of illness on both patients, their families, and caregivers
✅ Recognizing the importance of holistic wellness in improving overall patient outcomes
These experiences shaped my perspective on healthcare - wellness should not be an afterthought but an essential part of patient care.
Inspired by my work in healthcare, I founded To Live Well, LLC, a multimedia wellness platform that provides accessible resources for self-care, habit-building, and personal growth. I saw a gap in resources that help individuals - patients, caregivers, and healthcare workers alike - develop sustainable wellness practices.
Through To Live Well, I have created tools that promote:
🌿 Self-reflection and mindfulness – Guided wellness journals and prompts
📊 Habit tracking for consistency – Wellness and goal-setting templates
📅 Daily structure and intention-setting – Printable planners and scheduling sheets
🏋️♀️ Physical and mental well-being – Resources for movement, rest, and self-care
These resources are designed not just for those seeking personal wellness but also for healthcare workers and caregivers who often neglect their own well-being while caring for others.

The Impact of This Project
This immersion project has allowed me to explore the intersection of healthcare and wellness while developing tangible resources that extend beyond the hospital setting. It has reinforced my passion for patient-centered care and deepened my understanding of holistic health—a perspective I will carry forward as I continue my journey in nursing.
